BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr crew team spent a frigid, snowy Sunday morning on the Schuylkill River today as the squad got their first race of the season in. The Owls welcomed several teams from across the region to the Schuylkill today, and in the main race, the varsity 8 event, Bryn Mawr claimed a solid second-place finish in a field that also featured Washington College and St. Mary's of Maryland.
In that varsity 8 event, Bryn Mawr's boat was made up of Madison Barchas, Emily Spiegel, Aurielle Hampton, Sovigne Gardner, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sophia McConnell, Samantha Forestier, and Lina Oppenheimer and coxed by Samantha Van Cott. Washington College made great time throughout the race, slowly but steadily pulling out to a slight advantage by the end and finishing in a time of 7:16. Bryn Mawr did a great job of holding off a hard-charging St. Mary's team late in the race to claim second, really digging deep down the final stretch to finish in a time of 7:29. That was good enough claim that second-place finish, as St. Mary's finished a second behind in a time of 7:30.
Bryn Mawr will be right back in action next weekend in Philadelphia, as the Owls will take part in the Murphy Cup Regatta.
