Dwyer Leads Lacrosse With Hat Trick

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sophomore Ashton Dwyer led the Owls with three goals Thursday afternoon as the Owls fell to host Cedar Crest College 17-8 in non-league action.

After falling behind 1-0, Dwyer got the Owls on the board with a free position goal just 2:53 into the game. After nearly four minutes of scoreless action, Bryn Mawr took the lead when junior Zoe Fisher netted an unassisted goal.

The lead was short0lived as the Falcons tied the game just three minutes later on a Vivianna Samite goal. Cedar Crest added ten goals over the final 20 minutes of the half to take a commanding 12-2 lead heading into halftime. For the Falcons, Erin Studder netted five first-half goals including a natural hat trick with under 7:30 to play in the half.'

Out of the intermission, Cedar Crest's Emily Rodenberger pushed the Falcons lead to 11. Freshman Claire Johnson scored the first of four consecutive Bryn Mawr goals; she also scored the fourth. Her pair of goals was separated by another Dwyer goal at 22:20 and a tally from freshman Megan Kilmer three minutes later. The Owls had cut their deficit to seven, 6-13.

As the Owls tried to mount the comeback, a pair of Cedar Crest goals from Jen Harbison and Rodenberger spoiled that idea with goals at 11:39 and 9:06, respectively.

The Owls added two more goals two minutes apart in the final six minutes of the game. Kilmer picked-up her second goal of the year at 5:39 while Dwyer notched her third of the game and twelfth of the season with 4:34 to play.

Cedar Crest added two more goals as they secured their second win of the season and the 17-8 decision.

Studer led the Falcons with five goals while Rodenberger scored four times.

In addition to her three goals, Dwyer added one assists. Senior Melina Higgins also added an assists. Freshman Alyssa Young paced the Owls with eight groundballs while Fisher tallied four draw controls.

Sophomore Grace Baelen-King posted three saves before being replaced by sophomore Katie Fong who turned away nine shots.

The Owls return home this weekend as they open a four-game home stand to close out the 2012 season. They host Muhlenberg College on Saturday, April 20, at 1:00 pm.
