Lacrosse Falls to Sweet Briar in Spring Break Action

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Second-half charge spurs Sweet Briar to 16-8 victory over Bryn Mawr as the two teams clashed in non-conference action Monday afternoon while on Spring Break.

The Vixens jumped out to a quick lead as Reba Gagne scored just 34-seconds into the game. Bryn Mawr bounced back with back-to-back goals from junior Ashton Dwyer and sophomore Georgina Dominique, separated by only eight seconds.

Following a Sweet Briar goal, junior Zoe Fisher went between to the pipes to regain the lead of the Owls. Kim Orchowski tied the game at 22:09, before three straight by the Owls gave Bryn Mawr a 6-3 lead. Senior Kathleen Magner scored at 18:50 before Dominique netted two goals at 17:24 and 14:13.

Three straight tallies by the Vixens tied the game at 6-6 with just under 10 minutes to play.

Magner gave the Owls the lead right before half-time with an unassisted goal with just 22 seconds remaining in the half.

Sweet Briar came out firing in the second-half as they scored nine unanswered to push their lead to 15-7. Senior Katherine Kilmer netted her third goal of the season at 7:27. The Vixens added one more goal by Orchowski with 1:05 to play to earn the non-conference win.

Freshman goalie Katie Alpert posted 26 saves on 42 shots. She added two groundballs.

Dwyer recorded Bryn Mawr's only assist on the afternoon while freshman Alison Spain won three draws. Alpert, senior Tanya Hamid, Fisher and freshman Jessica Shill scooped-up two groundballs each.

The Owls are back on the pitch when they open-up their Centennial Conference slate on Wednesday, March, 12, against Swarthmore in Hilton Head.
