Swimming Faces Tough Competition In Last Dual Meet Of The Season

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Bryn Mawr swimming was in action earlier Saturday afternoon for a dual meet against Ursinus College. The Owls posted four victories, but it wasn't enough as Bryn Mawr shouldered a 103-64 loss to Ursinus College. With the win the Owls slip to 2-7, while Ursinus College improves to 11-1 in dual meet action for the season.

The Owls opened the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The foursome of Lillian Oyen-Ustad, Varuna Jasondanand, Hannah Soisson and Ryan Griffin posted a time of 1:57.76. Maddie Schwimmer was next to hit the water for the Owls. In the 200 yard freestyle she captured a 4th place finish in a time of 2:07.38. The freshman swimmer just missed her PR by two seconds. Becca Adlai-Gail and Ruth Mullin were also in the event posting a time of 2:08.67 and 2:23.63 respectively.

In the 50 yard freestyle Lauren Birmingham took fourth (28.86) while Samantha Forestier followed up with a fifth place finish (29.71).

Hannah Soisson and Faith Meacham faced tough competition in the 200 yard IM. Ursinus College locked in the first three finishes in the event, all in seconds of each other. However it was Hannah Soisson who landed a fourth place finish for the Owls in a time of 2:31.73 while scoring two points. Faith Meacham was not far behind in fifth place (2:32.13).

After her performance in the 200 yard freestyle Madelyn Schwimmer hit the water again this time for the 100 freestyle. Schwimmer posted a fourth place finish at 1:00.49. Samantha Forestier was in the event as well finishing in fifth at 1:05.43.

The race of the day was certainly Lillian Oyen-Ustad in the 100 yard backstroke. In a competitive field of six the junior captain captured the first win of the day for the Owls. Her time of 1:01.72 will stand as a season best and give her great momentum going into the Centennial Conference Championships next weekend. Faith Meacham was also in the event and finished 5th at 1:12.49.

With three events left in the meet Becca Adlai-Gail took the water a second time for the 500 yard freestyle. The sophomore swam to a fourth place finish at 5:34.28. Varuna Jasodanand and Hannah Soisson ended the individual races with solid performances in the 100 yard breaststroke.

Bryn Mawr closed out the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The foursome of Lauren Birmingham, Madelyn Schwimmer, Ryan Griffin and Lillian Oyen-Ustad posted a time of 1:47.90.

The Owls will be back in action next weekend for the Centennial Conference Championships which will be held at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. Events will begin Friday, February 23rd at 11 AM.
