BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr tennis team got back in action Friday afternoon against Moravian College. The Owls played well throughout the afternoon match, which was played at Lehigh University's indoor tennis center. However, ultimately it was Moravian who came away with the 6-3 win on the day.
Lizzie Siegle and Hannah Sherman got the Owls off to a fast start today, as the duo paired up to take the win at first doubles. They barely gave their Greyhounds opponents any foothold in the match, ultimately claiming an 8-3 win. That gave Bryn Mawr the first point in the match, but Moravian would battle back to claim the other two doubles matches and take a 2-1 lead.
In singles, the Greyhounds got the first point with a win at the sixth spot. Abbygail Brewster put up a solid fight, taking three games in the first set, but it was just barely not enough to keep up with her Moravian opponent.
However, Bryn Mawr got right back in it thanks once again to the efforts of Siegle and Sherman. The freshman got Bryn Mawr back within a point thanks to a dominant effort at second singles. Sherman only dropped a single game in each set, putting on a clinic most of the way through en route to her 6-1, 6-1 victory.
The Owls' momentum continued with Siegle earning a win at the top singles spot to tie the match up. The senior had a bit of a battle in the first set, but eventually cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win to make it 3-3. However, Moravian shut the door from then on, winning the next three matches to take a 6-3 win of the contest.
Bryn Mawr will be back in action on March 27th, as the Owls will play their first Centennial Conference contest that day. The team will travel to Washington College for a 3:00 PM start that Tuesday. Their first home Centennial Conference match will come on March 31st against Johns Hopkins.
