Bryn Mawr Drops Two in Tri-Match Action on Saturday

READING, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team dropped two matches in road tri-match action on Saturday against host Alvernia, 0-3 (7-25, 7-25, 21-25) and Gwynedd Mercy 0-3 (19-25,13-25,9-25). The Owls slip to 1-10 overall following today's matches.

In the opening match against Alvernia, BMC found themselves down two sets heading into the third.  Despite the slow start the Owls put up a good fight, two attack errors on behalf of Alverina, a block from Sienna Burnett and Nolan Julien and a kill from Camille Baechler placed the Owls back in the game to tie things up 12-12. The two teams rallied back and forth being just points of each other. However, eventually the Owls fell 20-25 to end the set.

Sienna Burnett and Nolan Julien led the team with 4 kills each. Freshman Casandra Paiz led the team wit 10 digs.

The second match of the day against Gwynedd Mercy was a much more competitive match for the Owls. In set one, the Owls battled to a 4-4 tie thanks to a kill from sophomore Delia Landers. Gwynedd Mercy swiftly picked up the pace thereafter leaving the Owls behind and closing out the set 25-19.

In the second set BMC attempted to set the pace for the frame early on. A kill from Jessie Zong followed by two kills from Sienna Burnett were the first few plays of the set, giving the Owls an early momentum. Despite the Owls efforts they found themselves down 6-11 half way through the set. Attack errors on behalf of BMC widened the gap and allowed Gwynedd Mercy to close out the set with another win of 25-13.

The third set began quite similar for the Owls, as an early kill and service ace from Sienna Burnett gave the Owls a 2-1 lead over Gwynedd Mercy. However the early lead was short lived, as Gwynedd Mercy battled back and the Owls had lost their momentum due to errors. Gwynedd Mercy went on a 10 point run to close out the set with a 25-9 win over the Owls.

Sienna Burnett led the Owls with seven kills and one service ace.  Camille Baechler trailed right behind with 4 kills, one service ace and three digs. Senior setter Nolan Julien had a total of 17 assists.

Bryn Mawr will be back on their home court next Thursday for a match against Dickinson College at 7 PM.
