Bryn Mawr Battles It Out Against Muhlenberg on Wednesday Night

Bryn Mawr takes on Muhlenberg in October 2018

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team was back in action earlier Wednesday evening in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. The Owls welcome Centennial Conference foe Muhlenberg to town for another league showdown, and despite taking a tough 3-0 loss, there were plenty of strong moments for Bryn Mawr. Nicole Wood led the team with 12 digs while Sienna Burnett, Penelope Newall, and Camille Baechler all tied for the team-lead in kills. Muhlenberg's Tara Register led all players with 11 kills on the night, while Gabrielle Neuman tallied an impressive 32 assists.

Bryn Mawr's strongest set was the opening frame, with the Owls coming out on fire and giving the Mules a bit of a surprise. The hosts won the first two points of the set thanks to a kill from Jessie Zong on a great feed by Newall and a service ace from Wood. Muhlenberg battled back to tie the set early, but the Owls then ran off three more points to get back out in front. A Mules attack error got that run started, and then Zong got another kill on a Nicole Wood set, and then she capped off the rally with another service ace for the Owls. Later Newall got a kill, and then Baechler tallied two kills of her own. A Mules attack error gave Bryn Mawr another point a few plays later, tying the set up a 10-all. Then, Muhlenberg started a run of their own, winning seven of the next eight points to jump ahead to a 17-11 lead. Bryn Mawr tried to hang in there, with a kill from Burnett helping the Owls get back within four. However, a four-point run from the Mules gave them a commanding 21-13 lead. Wood slammed home back-to-back kills, and later a service error got Bryn Mawr another point, but it was a little too late for the Owls as Muhlenberg clinched the set in 25-16 fashion.

Unfortunately for the Owls, they could not capitalize on the strong start in the first set, as the second frame was all Muhlenberg. The visitors put up a ridiculous .619 attack percentage in the frame, posting 14 kills against just one error. That potent offense proved too hot to handle for the Owls. Despite kills from Burnett and Newall, Muhlenberg ran out to an 11-3 lead and never really looked back. The Owls would find just one more kill in the set, and Muhlenberg claimed a 25-10 victory in the frame. The third set was a fairly similar story. Muhlenberg's offense continued to hit well, with the Mules tallying ten kills against just two errors in the set. Meanwhile, back-to-back kills from Baechler and Burnett midway through the set proved to be Bryn Mawr's lone kills in the frame, and the visitors walked away with another clean 25-13 win to claim the match in 3-0 fashion.

The Owls will be back in action this weekend with a trip to McDaniel. Bryn Mawr will look to topple the Green Terror, who are off to a fantastic 13-3 start in 2018. Game time in Westminster, Maryland is set for 12:00 PM.
