Bryn Mawr Swimming Opens Season at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr swim team opened their season earlier Saturday afternoon with a Centennial Conference quad meet at Gettysburg. Despite facing some stiff competition made up of swimmers from three other schools, the Owls made plenty of noise at the meet, picking up several achievements and top ten performances.

Throughout the meet, the Owls earned a few all time top ten performances. Maddie Sullivan reached a top performance in the 100 breaststroke, Jane Farrell in the 100 butterfly, and Grace Wing in the 50 Freestyle.

Bryn Mawr began the day competing in the 200 medley relay, finishing 4th overall. The Owls' A relay squad included Maya Madden, Maddie Sullivan, Jane Farrell, Grace Wing. The squad finished with a time of 1:54.41.

Sophomore Rooney Teagan put together a special showing in her season-opener. Teagan finished 3rd overall in the 500 freestyle ahead of ever Washington swimmer with a time of 5:32.20. She also finished 4th overall in the 200 IM, again ahead of all Washington swimmers, with a time of 2:20.61.

Sophomore Maddie Sullivan also had an impressive season-opener, most notably in the 100 breaststroke. Sullivan finished 4th overall in the 100 breaststroke finishing ahead of every Dickinson and Washington swimmer. Sullivan's time of 1:13:36 earned her an all-time top performance. She also competed in the 200 medley, 100 freestyle, and 200 breaststroke.

First-year Grace Wing not only earned an all-time top performance, but also finished third overall in the 50 freestyle ahead of every Gettysburg swimmer, with a time of 25.60.

Several other Owls posted top 10 finishes on the day in the packed meet. Junior Vivian Sandifer finished 9th in the 200 freestyle, followed right behind by first-year Clara Hartman. Sandifer also finished 8th in the 500 freestyle. First-year Maya Madden finished 8th in the 100 butterfly, 9th in the 100 breaststroke, and 9th in the 50 freestyle. First-year Lauren Johnson finished 8th in the 200 breaststroke and 10th in the 100 breaststroke. Senior Kelly Peterson finished 6th in the 200 butterfly and 9th in the 100 butterfly. Sophomore Paige DiFronzo finished 9th in the 200 backstroke and 10th in the 200 IM. First-year Clara Hartman finished 9th in the 500 freestyle immediately followed by sophomore Felicia Pursner in the same event. First-year Jane Farrell finished 5th in the 100 butterfly and 9th in the 200 butterfly.

 The Owls will return on November 4th to compete against Ursinus.
