NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team closed out their weekend trip to Massachusetts earlier Saturday afternoon, splitting their two matches on the day. The Owls took a tough early loss to hosts Smith at their own Smith College Invitational, but bounced back in a big was in the afternoon match against Albertus Magnus. For her solid efforts all weekend, senior libero Allie Nagelski was named to the Smith College Invitational All-Tournament team.
In the early match, Bryn Mawr (2-5) struggled to get much going their way throughout. Smith jumped out to a quick lead in each of the three sets and never looked back, ultimately taking the 3-0 win in 25-17, 25-15, 25-12 fashion. Camille Baechler and Caroline Cosby once again did a great job trying to lead the Owls to a win despite tough competition. Both Baechler and Cosby tallied seven kills apiece in the contest, with Cosby registering a staggering .429 attack percentage in the match. Kira Ogoshi tallied 17 assists in the match, while Nagelski had a solid game with 15 digs.
Despite the rough start to the day, Bryn Mawr bounced back in a big way in the second contest against Albertus Magnus. The Owls earned a solid 3-1 win in that contest against a plucky Falcons squad that has started the season 2-5. Final stats from the busy Smith gymnasium are yet to come in on the second match.
Bryn Mawr will look to get some positive momentum going by building on this win. The Owls will be back in action next Saturday with their first Centennial Conference contest of the year, as Bryn Mawr will host Washington College. Gametime on Saturday is set for 1:00 PM in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
