CARLISLE, Pa. – The Owls' volleyball program takes the road to Carlisle, Pa. to compete in a conference match against the Dickinson Red Devils.
Dickinson took an early four-point lead in the first set, 1-5. The Devils maintained this lead for the first half of the set, bringing the score to 4-8. However, the Owls quickly turned the match on its head thanks to two service aces by first-year Elise Perry, coupled with a few attack errors by the Devils. Bryn Mawr exploited these errors for a six-point run (10-8). The two teams continued to fight tooth and nail as they traded points, leaving the score knotted at 11-11. Dickinson broke free with a three-point streak (11-14). Elise Perry hit a kill to close the gap (16-18), but Bryn Mawr only managed to win one additional point throughout the rest of the set. Dickinson claimed the first set 17-25.
The second set started off close, with Bryn Mawr trailing by only two points after an impressive kill by sophomore Zoe Boxill, her first of the match (5-7). Unfortunately for Owls' fans, the Devils showed their aggression, with multiple consecutive kills and service aces to extend their lead to eight (8-16). Elise Perry stepped up for the Owls, hitting kills on the next two points. Yet from that moment on, the Owls only added one more point before Dickinson took the set.
The Owls weren't willing to go down that easily. Down 1-4 in the third set, Perry and Boxill each scored kills to bring the score to 3-4. However, with the home crowd on cheering them on, the Red Devils went on a 10-point rampage (3-14). The Devils continued their aggression to extend their lead within two points of a match victory (7-23). At this point, most teams would have packed their bags, but not the Owls. Spearheaded by a strong performance from Perry, the Owls won six of the next seven points (13-24). Dickinson claimed the last point to take the set 13-25, closing the match 0-3.
Bryn Mawr will return for a home match on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 PM for a conference match against Washington.
