Volleyball Gives Dickinson Solid Fight at Home

Nicole Wood against Dickinson

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Owls volleyball team faced off against Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon at home for another Centennial Conference tilt. The Owls put up a strong fight, but the Dickinson attack proved too hot to handle on the day, as Dickinson claimed a 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-9) win on the day. Nicole Wood led the way for Bryn Mawr with five kills on the day, while the Red Devils got ten kills from Emma Lange.

Wood got an early kill right out of the gates in the opening set, but Dickinson ran out to a 9-1 lead thanks to a handful of kills and some Owls errors. Zoe Boxill tallied a kill of her own a little later, and then Sydney Munnerlyn would notch a service ace late in the set, but the only other Bryn Mawr points in the frame would come on Dickinson errors. The Red Devils ultimately pulled away to a 25-8 win in the frame.

In the second set, Bryn Mawr got off to a much better start, as two Dickinson service errors and two more attack errors gave the Owls a 4-3 lead early. Wood and Munnerlyn teamed up for back-to-back kills a few points later, and then Munnerlyn notched another kill to keep the set tied at 7-7. Wood added another kill midway through the set and another service error kept Bryn Mawr within 12-9. However, from there Dickinson wrestled control of the set away from the Owls, and a late kill from Sydney Collins wasn't enough to overcome a 25-13 scoreline in favor of the visitors.

The Owls started hot in the third frame, using a couple of bad sets from Dickinson and two early kills from Wood to once again get out to a 4-3 lead. Unfortunately for Bryn Mawr, Dickinson won the next eight points, giving the visitors control of the set. Bryn Mawr tried to battle back, winning three of the next four points on a kill by Boxill and a few more Dickinson errors. However, the Red Devils racked up 18 kills in the set and hit at an absurd .548 attack percentage, allowing them to run out to a 25-9 win and claim the match on the day.

Bryn Mawr will return to action on Wednesday with a road trip down to eastern Maryland to take on Washington College. Gametime is set for 7:00 PM in that Centennial Conference matchup.
